holding on to you
holding on to you was the first song i knew that would be a favorite. not even just the lyrics, but also the sound of the song just scratches my brain perfectly! to me the song is about taking control of your mental health and clinging onto whatever you can to stay alive. for me, my friends (and music <3) are the ones i'm holding on to. my friends never fail to keep me going, even through my worst moments.
lovely
i love this song so so so so much omg. along with the instrumentals, i love a lyrics a lot. the chorus lyric is "won't you stay alive, i'll take you on a ride. i will make you believe you are lovely!" to me those lyrics always spoke to me in a certain way. it has always made me feel more connected to the band, knowing that those lyrics aren't for a singular person, but also for the fans.
guns for hands
guns for hands isn't a song i like just because of the lyrics or sound, but also because of my dad! i don't even know that he even likes it for the meaning or anything, i think he just likes the idea of guns for hands LOL but i associate this song with my dad heavily becasue of that, even if you song isn't truly about having guns for hands...
be concerned
this song is fully about having troubles with faith, and OH BOY do i have those. i began questioning christianity at 11-ish and i've literally never had a good relationship with religion since. i personally don't really believe in any religions now, but i don't deny the existence of a god. there could be a god, but i personally don't choose to believe there is. i hate the thought of believing in something that may or may not truly exist, but to each their own.
lavish
heh this song is pretty silly. it's really about being screwed over in the music industry, but they've expressed that meaning quite creatively in the song... the music vieo is also quite awesome, they went to a bunch of different places and used signs and such to show the lyrics! it's quite awesome and different than their other music videos, but i love it :]
mulberry street
this is another song i associate with my dad! when the album this song is on came out, this song immediately became our favorite. anytime i play it in the car we're always singing along :] i remember when i saw twenty one pilots with my mom in 2024 and they played mulberry street, i really wished my dad haad been there too :( (but i believe he was on a trip </3)
